History of Adriatic sea was influenced not just by pirates, but by captains, as well. There were many captains originally from the eastern part of Adriatic coast, especially from Dubrovnik and Boka kotorska. For example, Miho Pracat, the rich captain and mercant from 16th century Dubrovnik donated the part of his wealth to his hometown.
Ivan „Ivo“ Visin, the captain from Prčanj in Boka kotorska was the sixth person after Magellan who circumnavigated the globe. He sailed in a vessel called Splendido between 1852 and 1859.
Under the occupation of the French Empire at the beginning of 19th century, the island Vis was the center of Britain army. They spent a few years there. That’s why the fortresses in the town are named by them, and a rock in front of the port, as well.
In this workshop we will discuss about famous captains on the Adriatic sea during the history.
